Allied health professionals provide vital ancillary medical care functions such as surgical technology, respiratory therapy, or other services such as medical assisting. In fact, of all people who provide health care, most are allied health professionals.
Allied health professionals are not doctors or nurses — but they are essential in patient care settings. They may work in operating rooms, administrative offices, labs, etc. They may work in concert with physicians, directly with patients, or away from patient care but in vital support.
